Research Associate / Research Fellow – Psychology (DesCartes – WP6)
DESCARTES PROGRAM
The DesCartes programme is developing a hybrid AI, combining Learning, Knowledge and Reasoning, which has good properties (need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, ethics), and demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city (digital energy, monitoring of structures, air traffic control).
The program brings together 80 permanent researchers (half from France, half from Singapore), with the support of large industrial groups (Thales SG, EDF SG, ESI group, CETIM Matcor, ARIA etc.).
The research will take place mainly in Singapore, at the premises of CNRS@CREATE, with a competitive salary and generous funding for missions.

DESCRIPTION
On a general level, applicants will be selected through a careful assessment of their qualification suitability, synergy and alignment with the work package “Ethics of Autonomy and Care in AI Decision-making”. They are expected to:
a) Carry out a literature review and analysis in the areas of moral psychology (related to AI, environment, human-robot/drone interactions);
b) Provide support to the organization of international workshops and conferences;
c) Contribute to the internal meetings of the project by minuting meetings;
d) Develop and maintain a webpage and social media on the work package; and
e) Carry out scientific research within the project (for Research Fellows only)
In specific, applicants are expected to be resourceful, meticulous, work independently, and have strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary background the crosses the philosophy and psychology of ethics and morality, with a strong interest in theory. The ideal candidate will be adept at critically analyzing and engaging the literature on the abovementioned areas and be able to draw connections across multiple disciplines and competing theoretical perspectives. The applicant should have excellent writing skills and be familiar with the structure of a systematic literature review. We are looking for an independent self-motivated researcher who will take initiative, and who is excited by an exploration of the theoretical understanding of AI-human interaction and the ethics of smart cities.

Minimum Qualification Level: Master Degree (for Research Associate) / PhD Degree (for Research Fellow)

Gross Monthly Salary Range (SGD): 4000 – 6300 (Research Associate) / 6,000-7,2000 (Research Fellow)
