Research Associate (WP5&6)

The DesCartes programme is developing a hybrid AI, combining Learning, Knowledge and Reasoning, which has good properties (need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, ethics), and demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city (digital energy, monitoring of structures, air traffic control).

The program brings together 80 permanent researchers (half from France, half from Singapore), with the support of large industrial groups (Thales SG, EDF SG, ESI group, CETIM Matcor, ARIA etc.).

The research will take place mainly in Singapore, at the premises of CNRS@CREATE, with a competitive salary and generous funding for missions.

The RA recruited will be working with leaders of WP5 (Hybrid AI for linguistically-informed processing of texts and conversations) and WP6 (Ethics of autonomy and care in AI decision-making). The RA collaborator will help developing theoretical and empirical framework on LLM and moral beliefs in ambiguous scenarios.

Tasks

• Design and implement independent and collaborative research on NLP and psychological mechanisms underlying value decision-making in LLM and humans.
• Analyze data using state-of-the art statistical techniques.
• Present and disseminate research findings at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journal publications.
• Participate actively to WP5 and WP6 meeting organizations.
• Help in organizing WP6 workshop.
• Integrate research findings in meta-analyses and reviews.

• Masters or PhD in Cognitive Sciences, cognitive/developmental psychology.
• Experience in experimental methods, interest in NLP and LLM.
• Statistical and programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab).
• Strong skills in presenting research findings both orally and in writing.

Starting date: 1st of January 2025 (the employment is for 12 months with the possibility of a contract renewal).

Gross Monthly Salary Range (SGD): 6,000-7,200
